Firebomb Pizza

In our house, there is one thing we usually agree on. We love spicy foods; anything from hot wings to spicy chili to jalapeno poppers is good with us. So when I told my wife I was planning to do a series on pizza for this blog, her only request was a spicy pizza. Well, this one's for her. Spicy pizza and the Patriots losing to the Ravens. Now that's my definition of a perfect Sunday.

Everything that goes onto this pizza is spicy. Even the sauce is spiced up with a little red pepper flake. Topped with hot Italian sausage, spicy salami or pepperoni, hot peppers, and pepper jack cheese, this pizza is sure to satisfy anyone's craving for spicy food. Not hot enough for you? Throw on a few slices of jalapeno with the banana peppers. Still not hot enough for you? Seek professional help.

Firebomb Pizza (makes 2 pizzas)

1 recipe Basic Pizza Crust
1 Tbsp olive oil
2 tsp red pepper flakes
12 oz pizza sauce, canned or homemade
16 oz hot Italian sausage
4 oz hot pepperoni or salame caprese, sliced thinly
12 oz jar hot banana peppers
6 oz mozzarella cheese, shredded
10 oz pepper jack cheese, shredded

Preheat oven to 500 degrees F. If using a pizza stone, place it in the lower third of the oven and let it heat at least 45 minutes. Prepare crust for two pizza according to recipe. While crust is rising, heat olive oil  in small saucepan over low heat. Add red pepper flakes and let saute 30 seconds. Stir in pizza sauce. Remove from heat and set aside.

Spread half the pizza sauce over the crust. Top with half the sausage, half the pepperoni or salame caprese, and half the banana peppers.

In large bowl, toss cheeses together. Sprinkle half the cheese over the pizza.

Bake at 500 degrees F for 8-10 minutes, or until crust is golden brown and cheese is melted and bubbly. Repeat with remaining ingredients.
