Sweet and Spicy Chili

Although this weekend was a  three day weekend for me, I still had a ridiculous number of tasks to accomplish. As a result, I needed a very quick recipe to turn to. This recipe goes together very quickly and only needs a few minutes of simmering time to be ready to eat.

Both of my kids and my wife love this chili. It is slightly spicy and sweet at the same time, and is a good recipe for weeknights when everyone is really busy and needs a tasty and quick meal.

Sweet and Spicy Chili

1 Tbsp vegetable oil
2 lbs ground beef or turkey
1 onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, minced
3 jalapeno peppers, seeded and chopped fine
2 Tbsp chili powder
1 tsp cumin
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
2 cans (15 oz each) chili beans
1/2 cup honey

In large stockpot or Dutch oven, brown ground beef or turkey until no pink remains. Add onion, garlic, and jalapeno. Cook 3 minutes.

Add chili powder, cumin, salt, and cinnamon. Cook 2 minutes, stirring constantly. Stir in tomatoes, chili beans, and honey.  Bring to a boil, reduce heat and simmer 5 minutes.
